Job Description

The Department of Security and Safety/Campus Police (RICPD) at Rhode Island College invites applications for the full-time position of Campus Police Officer (RIC). The individual will independently perform a full range of tasks involved in the protection, safety and security of individuals and property at Rhode Island College (RIC).

The purpose of the RICPD, a Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies, Inc. (CALEA®) and Rhode Island Police Accreditation Commission (RIPAC) accredited agency, is to provide service and protection to the Rhode Island College campus, properties, staff, faculty, visitors, and students. Working with Student Services, Residential Life, Physical Plant and others in our on campus community, we are an integrated team striving to achieve excellence in police protection and to ensure a high quality of student-faculty life by promoting a tranquil, safe atmosphere conducive to the objectives of the College. The department is dedicated to the protection of the College properties to ensure the beauty, security, and safe function of the campus grounds and resources.

Requirements

Required Qualifications Include: Possession of a high school diploma plus successful completion of the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy curriculum, and prior employment in a full-time position requiring maintenance of law and order and protection of life and property, including responsibility for the arrest and detention of persons in violation of the law.
Special Requirements: Must possess valid Police Officer Standards and Training (POST) Certification; must be physically qualified to perform assigned duties as evidenced by a physician’s certificate; must possess and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license, must successfully pass prescribed criminal and employment background investigation; must successfully pass a state-approved psychological examination; must pass a pre-employment drug screening and any random post-employment screening; must acquire valid CPR/First Aid certifications within six (6) months of appointment and maintain said certifications.
